The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) will be hosting the 16th AEEP Energy Talks on 11 September 2024 (11:00-13:00 CET/12:00-14:00 EAT). Dedicated to the topic ´Rolling out Africa’s Continental Masterplan at Scale: The Role of Energy Tendering Systems’, the Energy Talks will explore the growing significance of energy tendering in Africa’s energy landscape and its impact on sustainable energy solutions.

The webinar will draw on insights from the recent report, ´Driving Growth: Effective Renewable Energy Tendering,´ by GET.transform, the University of Cape Town’s Power Futures Lab (PFL), and the  Sustainable Renewables Risk Mitigation Initiative (SRMI) of the World Bank’s ESMAP programme. The report underscores the critical role of renewable energy auctions in boosting competition and project success. It also highlights the need for substantial investment and tailored strategies to address Africa’s power shortages, providing recommendations for governments, policymakers, and industry stakeholders on best practices and strategies.

Ene Macharm, Head of Global Partnerships at GET.transform will be participating in the panel with Dr. Olakunle Alao, Researcher at PFL, Antony Karembu, Principal Investment Officer and Renewable Energy Specialist at African Development Bank (AfDB) and Claire Nicholas, Senior Energy and Climate Change Economist, Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), World Bank .

The opening remarks will be provided by representatives of the African Union and the European Commission along with a keynote speech: “Planning and political acceptance to action – the rapid and efficient implementation of Africa’s electricity blueprint” by Dr. Amine Idrisse, Senior Director, African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD).
