A recent workshop marked another milestone in promoting the uptake of Distributed Generation (DG) across Africa. The training was delivered as part of the Policy Catalyst Distributed Generation (DG) Window for Utilities and Regulators, a capacity-building initiative spearheaded by GET.transform and implemented by Sustainable Energy Africa (SEA) in partnership with the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR) and the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA).

The training focused on equipping utility officials and regulators with the tools needed to implement effective DG compensation mechanisms. Over 60 participants, including staff from utility companies and regulators from Eswatini, Mozambique, Uganda, Namibia, Lesotho, and Madagascar, were trained on the financial impact analysis of DG on utility revenues.

The workshop facilitated progress in developing draft DG tariffs for the participating countries, leveraging best practices from international standards. Expert contributions from the African School of Regulation and AFUR offered deep insights into the regulatory aspects of DG tariff design.

This workshop represents another key step forward in the broader mission to enhance sustainable energy access and build robust energy systems across Africa.
