This week, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, has officially launched Uganda’s first publicly installed electric vehicle (EV) charging station at Amber House, the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy (MEMD). This milestone underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating the development of Uganda’s EV market and fostering a sustainable energy transition.
GET.transform supported the event in partnership with the Ministry. Hon. Nankabirwa acknowledged the collective efforts of government agencies, development partners, the private sector, academia, and civil society in promoting e-mobility. She also expressed gratitude to GIZ for its ongoing partnership in ensuring a just and sustainable energy transition.
The pilot charging station, featuring two DC fast chargers, is expected to catalyze EV adoption and serve as a model for future infrastructure expansion. Meanwhile, the Ministry is in the final stages of developing an e-mobility regulation framework to guide the sector’s growth.
The Ministry further partners with GET.transform to develop an E-mobility regulation that will encompass operational guidelines and technical standards.
