Government representatives, energy company leaders and financiers came together for the 1st Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) Energy and Climate Seminar in Lisbon last week. The seminar was hosted by CPLP and its presidency the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe, and organised by ALER together with the Association of Energy Regulators of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (RELOP). The event aimed at boosting cooperation and dialogue between public and private entities in CPLP countries, identifying opportunities for climate finance, and discussing the regulatory framework in the energy transition projects.
GET.transform attended the event in partnership with Mozambican representatives from the Energy Ministry (MIREME), the Land and Environment Ministry (MTA), the Ministry of Economy and finance (MEF) and the public power utility EDM. In a panel on the role of regulatory frameworks for renewable energy investment, GET.transform participated with representatives from the African Legal Support Facility, the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) and the Miranda Law Firm.
Referencing insights from the activities in Mozambique, GET.transform shared success factors and emphasised the role of regulation in turning barriers into opportunities to unlock private and public investment through reduced risk, clear rules and transparent, effective tendering of RE projects. Regulation, embedded in a transparent governance architecture and data-driven planning-procurement-monitoring nexus, contributes to the achievement of the four pillars of the Mozambique’s Just Energy Transition Strategy. GET.transform is grateful and committed to continue its support to the Government of Mozambique in advancing the energy transition and achieving universal access to energy.
